Guest louisweil
I earned my Bachelor's in Anthropology, taking such classes as Biological Anthropology (which included a lab and study of human skeletal specimens). Wondering if CASPA will factor this into my science GPA as it is one of two science courses I took in undergrad. Furthermore, I am curious if a lot of schools will accept it as a bio elective. If not, I suppose I'll just sign up for organismal this summer. Any other folks out there who were Anthropologists in their past life? davidccs
The best places/people to ask this questions would be CASPA themselves, and any school that you are interested in. Good luck!
Administrator rev ronin Posted March 27, 2016 Administrator Share Posted March 27, 2016 Biological anthropology will likely be is an "other science", as it deals more with evolution than anything else, so yes, it should be factored into your total science GPA but not into your biology or BCP averages. As above, that's CASPA's call. See http://help.unicas.com:8888/caspaHelpPages/frequently-asked-questions/academic-history/course-subjects/index.html Schools will likely accept it for what it is, a biology-related course not focused on treating living human beings or the underlying science thereof, much as if it were Zoology or Botany, but individual schools may choose to give it more or less weight. ETA: checked, it definitely falls in other science per CASPA FAQ.
loliz
It will probably come down to what department the course is in. If it is a biology course, then other science is possible. However, if it was part of a anthropology degree and part of the anthropology department, this is liberal arts not science. If you look at the CASPA course guide, it specifically places anthropology in behavioral science, which is not calculated in the science GPA.
