wktk222
Hello everyone. I had a question about applying with science GPA below the minimum. I have around 3.4 cumulative GPA but my science GPA is below 3.0. Do I absolutely have no chance for schools with minimum of 3.0 sGPA?
Administrator rev ronin Posted January 21, 2016 Administrator Share Posted January 21, 2016 Unfortunately, no, your chances aren't good. If you have some unnaturally compelling background, you might get an interview, but otherwise your best bet is to take more/upper division science courses to make sure you at least meet minimums. PA school is quite competitive now, and even folks who meet the minimums are getting turned away in droves.
Disciple3
No, the computer will autosort you out for not meeting the requirements. Have to get those A's in upper level science courses.
LittlestBig
Go take more science courses and boost your science GPA up! Then once you get an interview, you can explain what happened.... If it comes up. Might not even come up after your GPA is higher. Oops sorry, just saw the above post. Yes, what he/she said ^^ Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
FrenchieBee2018
I would highly recommend investing in additional science courses. This year, I applied to a school in my area that said their minimum science GPA was 3.0. It turns out that they received so many applications (2,000 for 30 seats!) that they only pulled people with a 3.5 science GPA or higher. Mine is a 3.3. The sad reality is that PA school is ridiculously competitive. If you have the time and money to take some extra courses, I would do it. There are plenty of schools that, as long as you met that 3.0 minimum, will look at you, especially if you have great HCE and a compelling personal statement. However, the likelihood that you would get pulled is low if you don't meet that minimum.
mash
Yes and no. Depends on where you apply. Search for schools that have a minimum 2.75 sGPA and look at your application as a whole - they do exist. You need to have a stellar application otherwise. Give the committee a reason to overlook your low sGPA.
