I am in the mist of signing a 2 year contract for CT surgery; however, I am unsure about the package I am accepting. I was originally offered about 60K and negotiated my salary to 75K. I was then offered $250 for CME and 12 hrs for CME leave. I was able to get $1500 and 40 hrs for CME. I am getting full benefits; health, dental, vision, 401K, and malpractice insurance. Performance reviews only in September (once a year, but last year no one got a raise due to budget reasons). I generally feel like I am getting the short end of the stick because I am a new graduate and my fellow classmates have better offers in internal medicine (different states-PA & TX). Do you think my salary is good (not great) for a new graduate in CT surgery or should I continue to push for another 5K? I am just worried because I am signing a 2 year contact, so I don't want to be short changed. RetNavyPAC Posted November 13, 2009 Share Posted November 13, 2009 You were offered 60K to work probably 70+ hours a week, in a job with an incredibly steep learning curve for the next couple of years, locked in for 2 years and you wonder if you are getting the short end of the stick? Negotiate for at least 5-days CME. what's the call schedule like? request to be pay for any thing over required on-call at a hourly rate. What's the norm in your area as per new grad salary? The sal for a CT surgery exp PA starts arround 100-110K i THINK YOU SHOULD AS FOR a start at 85,000K and an increase after training in 6months to a yr. DO NOT sign a 2 yr contract !!! infact never for any job !!!............. Dont let them push you arround and take advantage since you are a new grad ! all the best !!! Two friends that graduated this past year are both working in surgical sub-specialties in OH & NY for around 110k starting out. Both have around 50-60hr work weeks, but also have 5 weeks vacation. They both told me they were offered ridiculously low salaries at the first couple job interviews, but held out for the right job. She's just a basic nurse, nothing special. And they're offering you the same to work in CT surgery? I hope this doesn't represent the PA job market.
