Guest JPG13
Is it beneficial to list other professions you have shadowed (doctor, NP, etc.)?
dndandrea
Of course. Shadowing any health professional is beneficial to your future career and it should be noted in your application.
JohnnyM2
If you are concerned that shadowing MDs,nuses, etc might suggest you are uncertain about the PA path, I think the opposite is true. Whitcc1
I switched tracks senior year from PT to PA, so I included it (PT shadowing) in my application because it was a pivotal part of my personal statement and it was a hefty bit of hours. Cindi23
When I submitted my CASPA last year, I included 2 MDs I shadowed along with the PAs. I think it is important to show because it demonstrates a better understanding of healthcare as a whole. While I shadowed the MDs, I was able to observe the relationship between the MD and their PA contributing in part to my decision to become a PA. AliB
I shadowed an NP as well as MDs. As others have commented, it gives you some first hand experience to reference about similarities and differences you were able to personally observe, albeit it a limited sampling, versus what you read or heard about it. Lyndhurst
I included the DO and PT I shadowed.During interviews I discussed how doing so was due diligence for applying to PA school. How can you be sure PA is right for you if you don't compare with other providers?
