Gabrie30
Hello, I noticed that St. Augustine has a OPA program (Orthopedic Physician Assistant program): http://www.usa.edu/content.aspx?sec=16&id=2b4bdd45-dbee-4e79-b6da-4a027d347659 . I was wondering if there is such a great need for one to specialize in OPA. Is this a limited field? FOr instance, if I become an OPA and wanted to specialize as a dermatology PA would I have to attend 2 years of regular PA school or could I take specialty courses in dermatology? Does anyone know about that aspect of PA? Thanks!

gracec210
Ah, yet another reason why PAs need a name change.

cinntsp
Has anyone applied to this program? It is a different profession than what this board is geared towards. The name is misleading.

eonbluemantra
Do these Physician's Assistants also work in Chiro besides Ortho? I don't believe there is supposed to be and apostrophe(') after "Physician". I believe it should be written "Physician Assistants". Just an FYI. rpackelly
You can’t be licensed as a PA with this program. Also, the school is not regionally accredited. Dismiss the thought. You might get jobs as a cast tech or as an ortho surgical assistant in some states, but your overall income and employment potential will be very, very limited. acozadd
Says directly on the website that it isn't a Physician Assistant program...

bgdog
OPA-C Probably the most useless credential ever unless you work in Tennessee. I know, I have one. Run, don't walk. You might be able to work as an ortho tech with it but then you would need an OTC from NAOT and don't even get me stated on that organization. Just go to PA school. clballin
bgdog, Can you enlighten me on your experience with this profession? I see it's not positive so I'm intrigued as to why. I have 2 friends that are enrolled in the program. Would this not be a good option at all for orthopedics?
