mednut83
I am re-locating from the Midwest and am new to the hospital-based academic type offers. This is an ortho/trauma, mostly clinical job; 8-5:00. OR only if I want it (which I would push for just to get out of the office! maybe once a week?) as the residents are there to do all of that). NO call, NO weekends. Health, vision, disability and all that. They are giving 84k with 4 1/2 weeks PTO (also to be used for CME) and $1500 CME fund. My main question to them: is that fund for EVERYTHING (ie license dues, AAPA, conferences, etc) as they didn't really specify. I have close to 2 years experience ortho. I REALLY want/need to relocate so I need this job, but don't want to get doped either. Could anyone with experience in this area/state help with how I can make sure I am getting what I deserve? My student loans are paid so that is not an issue. Relocation would definitely be a plus, but with it being an academic setting, I don't know how much pull I have to request extra things like that without losing the offer. Thanks, guys. Everyone's input is always so great!
PennPA4
Ohh my. If that is the future of PA in Florida I will never recommend anyone to move there. academic centers especially surgical specialty should be paying more than that especially with Ortho experience. CME money is not there also. Registration just to conference costs $800.
mednut83
The CME/extra fees is what I am really worried about. Im not quite sure what I should 'fight for' and where to pick my battles. The no call/no weekends is VERY attractive
dchampigny
I really hope your 2 years of experience isn't as an ortho PA.....because 84k and that package is an insult if you have experience in the field!
mednut83
It is in ortho. But have never been in trauma. Could someone please offer advice on what I SHOULD be looking to get as a package whole? It would really be appreciated.
PennPA4
100k is minimum. 2500 CME. Trust me in academia you will be stuck doing paperwork and will work overtime doing it because of the volume. Who do you think does refills/ FMLA. 4 week vacation/ sick.
GatorRRT
Pay in Florida is lower on average, but we also do not have state income tax. With 2 years exp I'd think you should be closer to 90k, but salaries do vary, with lower pay typical in the South Florida area.
hlj25950
I don't know if you can get more than that with no call responsibilities. That's where the 100K plus jobs come in. I know an Ortho PA in the area making around 93K with 2 years experience who takes call 10 days a month.
mednut83
I really appreciate everyones input. It really has helped. I think the no call is a BIG factor and adds to the quality of life. I can't wait to get away from the winters of the Midwest!
