What do you love, and what do you despise about being a PA

I'm looking to change careers. Wondering what are the High's and Low's of becoming a PA?

Love: the responsibility that I bear, the ability to effect peoples' lives, the science of the practice of medicine, watching people heal.  the profession provides for my family's needs. 

 

Hate: armchair quarterbacks who question my decisions, being treated as a third class citizen by some of my colleagues/other providers in the community, and always feeling like I have something to prove

Love: when everything comes together amd patient care is expedited perfectly for a patient that really needs it.

 

Hate: may be detrimental to my career if I were honest.

Pro- practicing medicine at a high level. Good patient outcomes.

Con- when political turf battles supercede patient centered care; clinicians who ignore EBM

LOVE: good jobs and respect with great scope of practice, pay, and autonomy in rural areas

HATE: Our name, no one knows what we are/do.Lack of respect from other medical professionals and some of the general public, limitations in urban areas(in EM at least).
