My heart stopped when I read the part stating that board certified physicians earned 100K LESS than non board certified. So, I looked at the originally medscape article. On page 7, of the link below, you will see that in fact, the summary has REVERSED the data. http://www.medscape.com/features/slideshow/compensation/2013/public Board certified physicians earn approximately $100k MORE than non board certified physicians. How often do you run into someone who loves their job and wouldn't do anything else in the world? Sure, they exist, but not in great numbers.
