MedicinePower
Do Medical Laboratory classes count as biology or professional classes for the purposes of CASPA? I was just accepted into a program at the local college. Courses are in Urinalysis, Hematology & Hemostasis, Medical Microbiology & Lab, and Immunology & Serology among others. Thoughts? EKR007
I would call a school or two that you're interested in and ask them, and also email or call CASPA. They'll definitely be able to guide you in the right direction, and especially what CASPA says matters since they will go and change it to what they think is right once you submit your app. It will save you and them some time if you enter it the way they want you to originally. cinntsp
As long as you are receiving undergraduate credit then it'll count as other science.
ktina
Urinalysis is other science. Hematology, microbiology, and immunology/serology are classified as biology/zoology
MedicinePower
Thanks for the replies, I appreciate it. I applied to this program as a backup if I don't get into PA school. I was accepted and will consider doing it for both the knowledge and the skills which will hopefully make me a better candidate for PA school. I thought they swapped them to other science when I applied. Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk
loliz
Hematology, microbiology, and immunology/serology are classified as biology/zoology This will depend on what department the class was based in. A BIO course in hematology is much different than a lab science course in hematology. Same goes for the other two.
ktina
My hematology lecture/lab was not a prefix "BIO" but it's still considered biology/zoology by CASPA. In fact some of the courses I took in the medical technology department were changed from other science to biology/zoology by CASPA.
loliz
I stand corrected:smile: Thanks, I seem to remember them telling me the opposite but it was a couple years ago. It really makes more sense this way.
