  1. So..... this is not something to worry about You mental health is something to worry about Corrections is a really hard field, partly because it is typcial for a whole bunch of suck up, brownnosers to get promoted in a state or county system who have no right being in control positions over medical professionals. I was a well seasons 15+ year PA when going into Corrections - I made it till the new MD they hired was a total jerk - didn't believe in addiction, MH, or the fact that legally he had to supervise me (I do not need any supervision at this point, but them are the rules) When he flatly refused to talk to me, and screamed and yelled at me I defended myself verbally, did not go over well as I was viewed as insubordinate, when in fact he was giving illegal orders and refusing supervision. Attorney stated I had an very viable whistle blower case (they were trying to force me to prescribe BUP when the doc was not X-waivered, and he was trying to find go arounds so he could prescribe it) Anyways - corrections is a really tough gig as a highly experienced PA, as a new grad, it would be damn next to impossible. Brush yourself off, put one foot in front of the other, and move on.....

It's at Marshall B Ketchum, in CA, and I'm thrilled. I went there for an Open House a while ago, and they have a great program. Now I have to prepare for the interview: Do you have any advice or recommendations on this? Thanks! Mike

  4. Hello there. Congrats on your interview. I tried to respond to your question that showed up on my queue regarding Concordia but it would not let my response in so I'm trying a different account. The interview day had a morning and afternoon group that were together midday for a general assembly and lunch. After eating the staff was introduced and they had each of us stand, introduce ourselves, and tell an interesting tidbit about ourselves. After that our group was further subdivided into smaller groups of 6 or so and each went to a separate room somewhere in the school of pharmacy. There was an essay part where we had to write why we would be a good choice for the program or better than the others. There was a group endeavor where we were told we were on a lifeboat and were then given the bios of 12 other people. We had to select 6 that would be allowed on the lifeboat. No right answer they just want to see how you play in the sandbox with others and how you perform in a group. There was a room where there were current students and we could ask questions. The president gave us an informational lecture in the next. And of course the actual interview. The interview consisted of 2-3 members who were either staff/recent grads/PA etc. They asked a variety of questions. I have had good interviews and bad interviews. There are so many questions they could ask that it is impossible to prepare for them all. They will ask why you want to be a PA and why their school. They may also ask for you to tell them about yourself. For my interviews that went well this is what I did. I did not prepare for their questions but instead made sure I memorized my talking points. What I wanted them to know about me. Take your time and give your answer, not what you think they want. Remember that everyone there is a rock star, including you. You deserve to be there. Also remember that nobody there can tell your story better than you. You know about you more than anyone on the planet. Let them see it. Best of luck and have fun. Remember it is the journey, not the destination so enjoy. God bless, Dave p.s. I did take my wife along and plenty of applicants had their parents along.

  9. Just be mello. PA School is a real challenge and the best way to prepare is to get a vision of yourself as the PA. To do this, read every bit of information on "What a PA is" and you will bcome excited with the dream which will become your vision. Good luck. bob
