Small CASPA error -- where to go from here

Recommended Posts

I realized I have miscalculated and accidentally added 10 hours to one of my volunteer experiences (non patient contact.) Should I contact my schools by email, or phone? I'm not sure with the best way to proceed from here. I have already received an interview invite as well.

Thanks for your help.

Go volunteer for 10 hours so you can say the numbers are accurate.  Tell them in the interview how you caught the error and thought the best way to correct it would be volunteer the 10 hours instead of reducing your number.

Unfortunately that is not an option because I no longer volunteer with that organization.

Pick somewhere else.  You could either turn it into a good story to tell the admissions people in an interview or just tell them is was entered in error.  Volunteering somewhere else to make up the time is much more interesting than just saying it was a typo.

Ah well I actually have begun volunteering elsewhere! Would you wait until interviews to share this? I have already eclipsed the 10 hours at my new position (which is not on CASPA.)

I would do the "Ask a PA Admissions Director" under "Pre-PA General Discussion"

I'm not sure if 10 hours would raise a red flag or if they ever verify the hours.

I wouldn't bring it up.  They're unlikely to care(unless it was the difference between making the hours cutoff or not) or even know about it and it'll just take time in the interview away from you being able to sell yourself.  Chalk it up to an honest minor mistake. No biggie.

I agree! Honesty is a great virtue and I would encourage you to try to correct a really significant error, but that isn't the case here. You are keeping the faith by doing the additional hours elsewhere so just move on.
