New Grad Family Medicine Offer

Recommended Posts

I've had a contract proposed to me by a West Texas group and would like to get an idea of what you guys think. It is a 2 year contract (which I don't like) for $80,000 per year. $4,000 relocation bonus and $5,000 sign-on bonus. 40 hours per week and $50/hour if overtime is worked.

Bennies:

Texas licensing, DPS, and DEA fees covered

Malpractice

Stipend for health insurance paid monthly, based on $2,000 deductible plan

2 weeks paid vacation

$1600 in CME or option to convert to an extra paid week of vacation

6 paid holidays

3 sick days paid per year

It is also approved by NHSC so I would be applying for loan repayment. Obviously not guaranteed to get the loan repayment so not considering this in the salary. What are your thoughts?

It looks like a great offer. Make sure that tail coverage is included (malpractice). I agree with GREEN above, ask for at least 4 weeks of vacation, though 3 weeks is considered standard here in the SE. Make sure these days are separate from CME (5 days of CME standard).

Really? I'm just a student and I thought two weeks was the standard.

That CME/Extra week swap is interesting. The extra week might be worth it.
