ciaobella08 Posted March 12, 2013 I am going to take the PANRE later this year. I have been working in general surgery for five years, and am considering taking the surgery specialty exam but have heard so many mixed comments I'm not sure what is best. Has anyone taken this or have any advice?

UGoLong Posted March 12, 2013 I just took the PANRE this past year. As I see no kids in practice, I took the adult test (still some pedi questions, but supposedly less than the primary/FP version). It was OK.

Just wanted to clarify, thanks for your response! if your long term goal is to practice surgery and have a "credential" that says you passed a specialty exam the caq is much more impressive than then surgery panre exam. everyone is trained to pass the primary care exams in school. that is the test you should recert on. if you want to show aptitude for a specific field take and pass the CAQ in that field.

Ah I see, thanks so much for the advice!
