whoRyou Posted March 12, 2013 I was wondering who is/was your hero in the medical arena? Hands down there are two people who I have had the utmost respect for a long time. Dr. Michael Debakey http://www.nytimes.com/2008/07/13/health/12cnd-debakey.html?_r=0 and my other hero who also is still currently living at the age of 92 who also lives here in my home town Dr. Denton Cooley.http://houston.culturemap.com/newsdetail/01-04-12-dr-denton-cooley-tells-all-debakey-heart-feud-revelations-included-in-his-just-published-memoir/ I wish I could have watched both DeBakey and Cooley preform surgeries. What a rush that would have been! Can you imagine? Both men were driven to perfection hence their feud between the two. They also both never settled for less than perfection and both expected all of those around them to function in the same manner. It's what I all strive for in medicine and what I look for as a mentor! Also I forgot to mention that DeBakey invented the M.A.S.H. unit, and established the VA hospital., and was a true pioneer in so many ways. (Which I am sure most of you knew already.) Both of these men have lived a lifetime literally and figuratively. I wonder what their "key" to living a long llfe was?
