Right now i'm a junior at a small christian school in Illinois, Olivet Nazarene University, which has a pretty well known bio program. I've got a 3.5 GPA and it is steadily rising as I have been getting all A's this semester and from here on out after I had a recent change of motivation, which should put me at a 3.75ish by the time i graduate. I will be getting a B.A. in Biology and double minoring in chemistry and sociology. I've taken all the prerequisites, medical terminology, biochemistry, cadaver lab, and will take developmental and nutrition. I will be going on a medical missions trip to Papau New Guinea for 3-4 weeks in May, so I'm hoping that will give me a really good edge on the competition. I should be able to graduate by December 2013, spend the spring of 2014 getting certified for EMT or paramedic, and then spend a year and a half working as an EMT or a paramedic before going to school. I will be shadowing during school. Assuming i do well on the GRE, what are my chances for getting in if everything goes peachy? Also....... Affirmative action. I'm a white male. Someone please shed some light on me and tell me I'm wrong in thinking that being a white male will set me back in the competition. As of right now my gpa is 2.76, however i went back and retook some classes and got a 3.1 . With all the C's and the 4 D's and 1 F's i have, i was wondering if this would ruin my chances? I am entering a special masters program that would give me a masters in medical science, after im done with this i still have 4 prerequisites left like A&P 1 and 2, microbiology lab, and medical terminology which i plan on taking at my undergraduate . I also have been working at a d.d.s. office and d.o. office for the past 3 years, doing filing work, assisting patients to their room and etc, also taking x - rays and recording things about the patient that doctor ask me to write down. Also have volunteer work, i volunteer at shelters to serve lunch, also volunteer at the local hospital. If i do good in the masters program and in the last prerequisites i have left, will i have a chance? I'm 24 and i dont want to get to 28 and have no job stability, i dont want my parents to incur anymore debt from me, i want to help them pay them off as soon as possible. Thanks for the advice.... Not sure how things work at your small Christian school in Illinois, but if you are worried that being white and male will prevent you from achieving your goals, I got nothing for you.
