New Programs

Yep there is definitely a chance. If it comes down to between that vs an established one, go with the established one. Now there is of course the chance it will be accredited no problem, but you are rolling the dice a lil bit yep.

However if that's all you get in, consider: are they affiliated with another successful med/dental/etc school? Or at least successful undergrad or grad program? What does your gut tell you based on the interview?

Any student that is admitted to a PA program with provisional accreditation and graduates from that program is eligible to sit for the PANCE, it does not matter if the school is awarded accreditation or not which is unlikely. The PA schools are watched closely during the provisional accreditation and they would not have been awarded provisional accreditation if the ARC-PA didn't think they would succeed. As stated above...look at other graduate and professional programs at the university. Do they have a good track record and a good reputation? That tells me a lot if their other programs are ran well. Good luck!

I have also been accepted to a program that has a provisional accreditation. It has a great reputation and has done well with other graduate programs. I was wondering if anyone from the professional stand point could comment on whether attending a new program hindered their job offers or 2nd year clinical rotations? During your first year, was it harder to attend a school without a prior class available to mentor you?

The only issue I would have with a new program (which could be a potential problem with any program) is the curriculum. After being a guinea pig for a new curriculum, I can say that it sucks. Dont get me wrong, the new set up definitely has its pluses but a program needs to have a couple classes go through before all the kinks are worked out and they have made sure that the courseloads are manageable and somewhat balanced. Theres something to be said about a curriculum that has been set in place for a while...
