syd12311
I am currently working in a Derm clinic as a medical assistant and actively assist a PA on a daily basis. I spend days/hours/weeks assisting them with patients... would this experience double as shadowing hours? I do not have any hours dedicated to shadowing a PA, but I do have ~60 hours shadowing a dentist Edited December 10, 2022 by syd12311
natasha1992
No, you can not "double up" on hours. However, unless a program specifically requires shadowing experience, I think your experience working with a PA is enough for you to be able to speak on why you want to be a PA, etc. based on those experiences.
ni256
To syd16311: I worked as a medical assistant for 12y, worked directly with PA, but still they require PA shadowing.
Moderator EMEDPA Posted February 10, 2023 Moderator Share Posted February 10, 2023 The shadowing requirement was created because people were getting into PA school and not knowing that a PA is not a highly paid medical assistant. When I applied to PA school in the early 90s it was expected that applicants had worked closely with PAs before and knew what the profession was. People had a lot more experience then with classes mostly filled with medics, RNs, and RTs.
