How do stimulants effect neurocardiogenic syncope?

Recommended Posts

Im sorry if my grammar or spelling is off im, not the best at those things however I really do want to be an anesthesiologist one very big problem I have neuro cardiogenic syncope aka vasovagal syncope and I am also prescribed various stimulants for my ADHD. One day in class I fainted thanks to my neuro cardiogenic syncope but had not taken my meds that day and so I was wondering if stimulants affected or I know this is wishful thinking prevent neuro cardiogenic syncope from occurring, thanks.

We don’t typically use stimulants for neurocardiogenic syncope, but it could have an effect. We sometimes use midodrine or Northera if it is necessary to increase BP, along with fludrocortisone if there is a cortisol issue. SSRIs and SNRIs also have a role in the form of a beneficial side effect of diminishing the parasmpathetic reflex.

That said, see your provider!
