nikdin
This will be my first year applying to PA school. I have letters from doctors and management, but I do not have a letter from a science faculty member. Would my medical assistant instructor suffice? Thank you! Anachronist
Hey Nikdin, So all of the programs I applied to (predominantly in the Southeast) put the most emphasis on LORs from actual clinicians. Mine were 1 nurse/supervisor, 1 PA, and one EMS instructor (who was the director of the program and also a Paramedic and RN). That said, you also don't want a "generic" LOR, someone who will talk about your patient interaction and abilities in a clinic setting carry the most weight. Unless a science faculty member is a requirement of your particular program, it is not required. If it is required, check with the admissions committee to make sure your MA instructor will suffice (though I would phrase it along the lines of "I have a rapport with this instructor and believe they understand my capabilities and performance very well," as opposed to "is this person good enough?"). jesswiz3
Hello, I am wondering if you have applied to schools yet? I also took medical assistant courses. Thanks! Jessica
