SoCal_PA
Looking for some feedback here. This is my first job offer. Pros - Very nice clinic - Owned by husband and wife (both physicians). Liked them both - Within 5 miles of where I live - Can choose to work 3 days/week - Docs willing to teach - High level of autonomy once they see I am capable - They have experience with PAs - Malpractice with tail coverage Cons - It would be a 1099 - I asked for a reasonable range based on what my classmates have been offered, and was told it was too much ($60-70/hr). No real number was offered after that point but I would assume 50-55 which is garbage due to no benefits I pretty much answered my question, but just wanted some thoughts
GreyhoundGirl
I'm not a student yet so take this with a grain of salt... Whenever we do budget calculations benefits are about 30% added onto salary. So, $52 an hour is really like ~40 an hour somewhere with decent benefits (40x.3= 12). Which is what you could probably make as a grocery store manager in LA... billo
Doesn't sound like a good offer to me. Be patient I'm sure you'll get better offers. Also, I've been told by other PAs to stay away from family owned businesses.
bananapeppers
I rotated at an Urgent Care in LA and they were paying their PA's $45/hr, 1099 with NO benefits. It was a family owned UC, with the manager being a previous ED doc. RUN AWAY from the family owned businesses!

Timon
Go work for CEP in LA and you'll get around $60 / HR as a new grad in the ER. If you work at EM care, that pay is around $70 and caps around $85 / HR. As a recent grad, I was also offered $56 / HR to work in Urgent Care with full benefits which includes CME, licensing, mal practice and the other bells and whistles. Don't sell yourself short.
