CAAdmission
Nice idea, but the price is likely about 3 times what the market will support.
TheKnotBored
Thank you for your input. We'd love to be able to make this more affordable for individuals in the future, but currently, between labor and materials, this is the going rate. We have several PA programs that have already purchased them for their students use in the classroom. Fortunately, they're handmade, durable, and will last for years of practice and refresher, so well worth the price!
cop to pa
While it looks interesting, I have to ask: is it patented? Why could I not build this in the garage for 2/3 the price or less? It even looks like that is where it was constructed.
PA2016!
This design looks similar to the board we use in my program. http://www.ethicon.com/healthcare-professionals/education/student-knot-tying-kit
cop to pa
The ethicon one looks identical. And, it's free to students through the ethicon website. I hate knocking someone trying to make a product to help people, but the wooden board by the OP is more expensive than I could do myself and identical to a free one already available to students. Sorry.
SkateSki14
I've actually been trying to get a board from ethicon for the past year and a half and they are constantly on backorder with no estimate of when to have any in stock. They used to be a great way to get a board, but they havent been able to in a while now!
TheKnotBored
Cop to Pa, No, KnotBored isn't patented...yet. Nor are we certain that it's worthwhile to do so at this time. The name is registered and trademarked. And yes, they are hand made, with a rustic look that we intended. There is no reason that you couldn't build one for yourself, and possibly do it cheaper, but it's debatable. When you add materials & labor alone, you'll be surprised where you end up. We have additional operating costs on top of that. We buy materials in bulk, which helps us keep our prices as low as possible. But by all means, feel free to tackle one for yourself! That's exactly how our business got started. Our PA program had old boards, many of which were falling apart, and they only allowed us a one-time, 2 hour use during the knot tying lab. Many of us wanted to practice at home, and throughout our clinical year. So we made a few, and before we knew it, the majority of our class wanted one. The rest is history. We're busy trying to put a well-made tool in as many future practitioners hands as possible! At a cost of less than most text books, along with our 5% give-back to the industry (annual mission trip scholarship fund), our numerous customers find KnotBored an excellent value/purchase. Merry Christmas, -The KnotBored Team
