Army installation assignment

Recommended Posts

Can anyone answer where the most likely assignment would be for a newly commissioned PA in the army?  I do have some experience, so my recruiter said I would be commissioned as a captain, would that make any difference in the assignment?  Also, what should I request?  I know I like the location of Fort Lewis, or Fort Carson, but does anyone have any recommendations on good assignments for PAs?

Thanks for the help!

Yes, it just depends on slots available. Sometime you can guarantee that when you sign your commission paperwork. Call your branch officer to check for available slots. Usually you will arrive at a unit before deployment, but luckily most deployments in the army are diminishing. So you may not deploy at all depending on which unit you are assigned.

You won't get an SF slot right out of school period unless you were prior SF. You can rank your choices. Fort Carson/Fort Lewis are the most popular duty station requests in the Army, so I wouldn't bank on it. Campbell, Bragg and Drum are the largest, so you'll probably end up there. I would rank Carson, Lewis, Campbell. Campbell is nice due to its proximity to Nashville. Coming in as a captain makes no difference.
