pagator
Can anyone answer where the most likely assignment would be for a newly commissioned PA in the army? I do have some experience, so my recruiter said I would be commissioned as a captain, would that make any difference in the assignment? Also, what should I request? I know I like the location of Fort Lewis, or Fort Carson, but does anyone have any recommendations on good assignments for PAs? Thanks for the help! Moderator EMEDPA Posted February 14, 2014 Moderator Share Posted February 14, 2014 chances are as a new enlistee that you will end up doing an overseas duty tour...
pagator
Yeah I figured I probably would, but don't they put you at a permanent duty station first and then you deploy?
Ghazni
Yes, it just depends on slots available. Sometime you can guarantee that when you sign your commission paperwork. Call your branch officer to check for available slots. Usually you will arrive at a unit before deployment, but luckily most deployments in the army are diminishing. So you may not deploy at all depending on which unit you are assigned. Sent from my XT907 using Tapatalk
Ghazni
I would go for a sf group assignment. As a battalion PA. Or with the a infantry or aviation unit like 82, 10th mountain, or 101 Sent from my XT907 using Tapatalk
Ghazni
Sf units are located at England AFB, ft Bragg, fort lewis, ft carson, and Campbell. Sent from my XT907 using Tapatalk

narcan
You won't get an SF slot right out of school period unless you were prior SF. You can rank your choices. Fort Carson/Fort Lewis are the most popular duty station requests in the Army, so I wouldn't bank on it. Campbell, Bragg and Drum are the largest, so you'll probably end up there. I would rank Carson, Lewis, Campbell. Campbell is nice due to its proximity to Nashville. Coming in as a captain makes no difference. Source: been there, done that.
