Empowred
Hi, I am an old International medical graduate currently working as an EKG/telemetry technician in hospital. I have more than 6 yrs of medical experience working as MA & EKG specialist. I want to pursue the dream of PA in this country. Recently working part time as I have 2 month old baby. I have evaluated my foreign transcripts and I have 3.8 GPA. Would really appreciate if some one can guide me regarding the next steps to take for applying for schools. Also I feel I am a bit old to start as will be 41 this December. Is it too late to start now?? Approx how much time will the process of completing the prerequisites and applying to schools take? Thank you for your time
bradtPA
It's never too late to start PA school. I graduated at 50; just keep in mind it will be expensive, and only you can determine if it's worth taking the hit towards your retirement savings for when you are in school. As far as requirements, contact the school you are interested in. Many schools require these things: TOEFL, a universal transcript translation service, and prerequisites to be taken in the United States. This is not universal, however, you really need to contact the school you are interested in. Prerequisites plus PA school could take 3-4 years to complete. cinntsp
Go the CASPA site and start reading through the instructions and FAQ to get an idea what sort of things will be required as part of the application. Then visit the sites for schools you are interested in to see if you meet the pre-reqs. If you love medicine and want to practice it, then it's never too late to start. My oldest classmate was 59 at the start of PA school btw. https://portal.caspaonline.org/
