TaraFuturePA
Hi all, I am a clinical year PA student who is expected to graduate in May 2024. I recently applied for a fellowship at a hospital I hope to work at in the future. However, not knowing if I will get into the fellowship, I want to cast a wide net and apply for jobs as well. There are some positions at the hospital (not within the same specialty as the fellowship I applied for, but not far off) that I am interested in. I found out that the APP recruiter is also involved in the fellowship recruitment. In this case, I am wondering if applying for those jobs will sabotage my chance of getting into the fellowship and vice versa? Thank you for your input and help in advance! Moderator EMEDPA Posted February 16 Moderator Share Posted February 16 I think if you make it clear that your preference is the fellowship followed by long term employment there no one will use it against you.
SedRate
No, but be prepared to explain why you're applying to two different fields and fellowship vs employment. And know for yourself why you're applying for each. For example, I worked for a hospital system in a surgical subspecialty and applied for a job within the same system for two unrelated medical subspecialties. The recruiter and directors questioned me and I explained my reasoning. I interviewed for both and ended up getting an offer for one but took a job in a different surgical subspecialty at a different practice that I didn't even apply for.
