EM Residency Blog

Recommended Posts

Hi all. I'm starting a residency blog as I gained a lot of good information from these when going through the application process.

I just started an 18-month EM residency. We are lucky to have an approximate ~six weeklong orientation process to ease into the program; this includes shadowing a variety of medical providers, lectures, ultrasound training, BLS/ACLS/similar, and a lot more. Everyone is incredibly nice, it seems all the people I met are on a first-name basis. The PA residents seem truly integrated into the existing physician residency program. This includes weekly lectures/labs, monthly journal club, and of course, social activities.

My first few months will be EM and Peds EM. Electives and off-service rotations will kick in during summer/fall. From what I have seen and heard so far, you function as any other resident in terms of roles, responsibilities, procedures, and all that good stuff. That's what I was looking for in a program.

I'll post again with more details as I move through the residency.

Disclaimer: these opinions are mine and mine alone.
