ok2014 Posted September 1, 2023 My cohort has been feeling very defeated with lab time. We usually have a combination of OSCE practice, SIM lab, and procedure simulation (ex. LPs, injections, suturing). We have had a LOT of lab time though spent getting additional lectures. I often just feel like my time is wasted and not utilized as well as it should be in our one opportunity to get out of the classroom. We usually have 1-2 labs a week totaling 4 hours. Are other programs like this too? I am particularly interested to know how you use lab time for Psychiatry, Pulm, and Rheum. Quote
ohiovolffemtp Posted September 4, 2023 Schools vary significantly in this. When I went though PA school our lab time was almost exclusively OSCE's which were graded solely on how many boxes we ticked. We had 1/2 day on suturing, 1/2 day on splinting/casting, and a few other things. Woefully inadequate. However, your clinical rotation are where you really learn how to do things. Quote
Moderator EMEDPA Posted September 5, 2023 Moderator At Hahnemann(now Drexel) we had an EM procedures course a few hrs a week for an entire term. Looks like they combined it with some PBL content into clinical skills 1-3: https://catalog.drexel.edu/graduate/collegeofnursingandhealthprofessions/physicianassistantcon/#degreerequirementstext Quote
