Low-dose ketamine in ED

Recommended Posts

Is there anyone on this group that practices in New York State that is using or knows of the use of low-dose ketamine as single dose bolus for analgesia in their ED? Can you please email me and let me know if you have a guideline that can be shared. The reason I’m specifying NY state is that there are fairly ambiguous nursing regulations that is blocking our use of it.

That sounds like an issue for NY PAs and your medical board. If you are credentialed for procedural sedation and RSI already you should be able to order these meds. If the RNs won't give them, pull them and give them yourself. You should have access to the pyxis/omnicell whatever rx machine is in your dept. I pull meds all the time under my own log in when the nurse(s) are busy and I need something right now.
