Simplify
Curious if anyone has experience with this. If you work rural EM but your supervising physician is a primary care physician (standard for many rural departments) are you able to apply for NHSC loan repayment? Appreciate your thoughts. MCHAD
It doesn’t matter what your collaborating doc does, the APPLICANT has to work in primary care. This is directly from their website: Only clinicians who are fully trained and licensed in one of the following disciplines and specialties are eligible to apply to the NHSC Loan Repayment Program: Medical Primary Care: Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, Obstetrics/Gynecology, Geriatrics, Mental Health https://www.nhsc.hrsa.gov/loanrepayment/eligibility.html i got loan repayment for 3 years through NHSC. They don’t even ask who your collaborating physician is let alone what specialty they claim.
Moderator EMEDPA Posted November 12, 2017 Moderator Share Posted November 12, 2017 my understanding is that the state of KY has (or had) a need for em folks a few years ago and had a state based program of loan repayment....although as one of the worst states to practice as a PA it's not hard to see why they have trouble recruiting folks.
