resources for ortho first assist

5 posts in this topic

I just got hired for an ortho job that will be 100% first assisting. I have spent the last 3 years as a hospitalist in CV surgery (no OR time) and the 2 years prior to that in Family Medicine. Needless to say, I will have some catching up to do with the actual surgery side of things.

Any suggestions for good resources to help me prepare for my time in the OR?

-netters orthopedic anatomy

-orthobullets.com

-handbook of fractures (more for educational purposes since you'll be assisting and not consulting)

-fake skin (Amazon) + old/expired suture (OR leftovers) + YouTube

-UE/grip workouts, lol

Good luck!

All good suggestions above. I would say for me, the most helpful is www.vumedi.com. tons of videos. You do have to create a profile I believe, but it's totally worth it.
