NCCPA Position Statement (was: report)

Recommended Posts

It's simply a fact that physicians receive more training (at least as far as time spent is concerned) than we do.

Are we to conclude from the premise "It is a fact, physicians receive more training than we do" that Physicians are superior clinicians to PAs? Where is the evidence? I would invite the ABIM and USMLE to open the ABIM board exam and steps 1, 2 and 3 of the USMLE to PAs for the purpose of independent practice. If a PA can pass these exams, then it would seem that the "far more training that physicians receive" is really not creating any substantial difference in outcomes. The possibility of this being true frightens doctors everywhere which is why they would retreat from any mention of having a PA take their exams. Does this sound eerily similar to the same way slave owners used to regard the black man when he wanted to vote, get an education and live free.
