ec_yoshi
Hi, I want to apply to PA school sometime in the future, but my GPA is incredibly low. I have a 3.0 overall GPA and my science GPA is a lot lower. I'm planning to take some classes in a CC b/c my university doesn't offer them, and I'm planning to retake a few classes that I got C's in. Do I have a chance of getting into any PA programs, or should I start looking into a new career?
DiggySRNA
This topic has been beaten to death. There are success stories on this very same forum with applicants with not so great GPAs getting into PA school. That being said, GPA is not the end all be all (but most important these days). High quality HCE (EMT-P/B, Corpsman, RT, RRT, PT, RN, Surgical Tech...etc) will help buffer your application. Don't forget lots of community service/volunteering too. Another career might be an option if you feel PA is just not worth the battle.
MyNameWasUsed
CASPA doesnt do grade replacement and instead will average your repeated courses. Some programs do do grade replacement such as Western University. 3.0 cGPA is really low but it is above the auto reject threshold for every program i think. Depending how low your sGPA is, it might not make it pass the auto reject.
ec_yoshi
Thanks for the responses! I was asking bc even though a lot of people post their gpa's they tended to be higher than mine so I wasn't sure if the situation was exactly the same. I couldn't comb through every single tread. Allegro
Take a look at the average GPAs of apps who matriculate at the programs you are interested in applying to - most schools usually publish these somewhere. It will at least give you an idea of what you will be competing with and what the school generally is looking for.
