bgdog
Went to the dermatologist a week ago. Of course, the topic of me being in PA school came up. He went to the same University. He says he's looking for a PA and to let my peers know. As I'm a first year, a job is not in my immediate future, but the next class is getting ready to graduate so I figured I'd let them know, in case anybody wanted a derm gig. I inquired as to the details. He says it's volunteer, the person would shadow two days a week to see how he likes things done and to learn derm. Oh, I said, a little taken aback. Um, How long is the tryout? Six months. If he liked you he might hire you. It took everything I had to keep a straight face.
Moderator ventana Posted October 7, 2011 Moderator Share Posted October 7, 2011 what is wrong with doc's thinking they can get free staffing? Who covers you malpractice? Does he bill for you? these "offers" are just insulting and we should immediatly refuse (tougher as a student)
JFarnsworth
This is totally unacceptable. What that doc is saying, essentially, is that he has no problem wasting a PA's time and is not willing to pay a medical provider for 6 months. What would he say if he got this same offer out of Med school? He'd laugh and say, I did not go through this much schooling to be a volunteer for 6 months. See ya. But somehow it's ok for him to treat a PA this way? RUN RUN RUN this guy is not someone who deserves a PA.
