Dondoro88
I've had the chance to shadow PAs in IM/FP but want to be able to see a surgery/emergency department. Unfortunately the only Pas I could find locally work at a university hospital and I'm not sure if it's appropriate to contact them directly. Im thinking about shadowing a doctor instead to get a feel for how these depts are. Any ideas on how to find such opportunities? I've been searching online for local shadowing opps but to no avail. FriarMedic
if you want to be a PA you should shadow a PA. If you're deciding between MD and PA, then by all means shadow both. I found EM PAs through a search of hospital websites, "PA-C". Once I found providers, many times their emails or a dept directors emails were listed. I "cold-emailed" presenting myself, my situation, and asking if I could shadow. Probably got about a 50% return rate and ended up shadowing plenty. Michael Y.
I've shadowed an MD for a day, and I rather shadow the PA. The MD didn't really educate me in any sense. Just sort of babysitted me. The PA on the other hand, FORCED me to be active in the enviroment and made me want to ask questions about certain procedures.
