I went to Nicaragua this past summer with Volunteers in Medical Missions.  It's a Christian group, but the focus was very much on the medical clinic and not on converting the patients to their religion.  It's well organized and they work with local doctors to provide care throughout the year.  Plus they go to the same places every year and have local contacts there.  It was a really good experience and I was treated just like the other doctors and PAs there, even though I was a student.  We saw 1800 patients in 4 days and I got to see some really interesting things that you wouldn't see in the US, like an extremely large goiter on this woman's neck!

Best of luck and feel free to message me if you have questions.
