RandomD
Many if not all of the programs seem to have a capstone or graduate project. I'm sure it differs with each program, but I'm curious what is involved. Is it a case study presentation, or something of publication quality? SHU-CH
You will find they vary pretty widely. We have our students break into groups based on a topic of mutual interest. They then come up with a research question, design a study, collect data, analyze it, and draw a conclusion. Due to time constraints in PA school, students tend to do survey-based research or retrospective reviews.
Moderator True Anomaly Posted September 4, 2013 Moderator Share Posted September 4, 2013 Our program's masters project involved the entire didactic term- which was a year and a half in the classroom, and they expected publication-type works. It was a full-on masters thesis that we had to do unique research for and defend to faculty. We could, however, partner up with somebody- and you better believe we all took advantage of that. My project involved looking at psychological data involving bariatric surgery patients. It had nothing to do with my practice now in the ER, but the process of actually doing research, crunching the numbers and defending the thesis was what was important.
