per diem rate ....

Recommended Posts

I am wondering if anyone has left a full time job in Emergency med but stayed on per diem, and if their rate was increased. I am switching from full-time EM to UC but staying at the hospital per diem and I have been told they are not willing to adjust my per diem rate, which does not seem appropriate or ethical for that matter.... Thoughts?

Disclaimer: I no longer work in the ED and never worked FT there, however…

If you are transitioning from full time to per diem and lose benefits…

Typically if compensation does not include benefits such as paid time off, health, CME, etc then an increase in hourly rate of ~30% or more (to offset the loss of benefits) is usually offered otherwise the pay is generally viewed as non-competitive by providers.

I don’t know if this qualifies as unethical behavior… perhaps more a lack of professional respect by lowballing PAs.
