Prereq GPA

Recommended Posts

I am looking to apply to PA school in the next 2 years and am worrying now about my grades. I still have half of the common prereqs PA programs require left to take. My question is, do PA schools look at the grades of the pre reqs more closely, do they average them and could that help an applicant? Any insight is helpful, thank you!

Long story short, CASPA has a way of calculating multiple GPAs from your transcript and they will have a minimum overall GPA (all collegiate courses combined) and a science GPA (their prerequisite requirement GPA). All in all, they look at both the required science GPA and overall GPA, I'm assuming it's better to show strength in your science GPA though. Definitely keep track of each program's requirements as they vary. Biggest mistake for me in my first application cycle was not realizing my science GPA was trash, now I'm at the point of maybe retaking 2 classes postgraduate. Focus on your grades now, it's better to know when you can still change something rather than retrospectively! You got this!

Thank you for this insight. Can I ask how soon you are planning to apply?
