Capitalization of "Physician Assistant"

I see a lot of inconsistency with this.

 

I would never capitalize "physician assistant" unless it were part of someones title -- i.e., Physician Assistant John Smith was my mentor.

 

BUT not capitalize here: My research involved looking into the details of many physician assistant programs.

 

or here: The physician assistant at the hospital was swell.

 

Am I missing something here?

I don't think you are missing anything. Do you capitalize nurse, doctor, paramedic, dentist, x ray tech?

I agree with both of you but it does seem like most/a lot of people who post their personal statements here make this mistake.
