tpykwan
stephpaniek1112, I think most schools do accept back office MA as direct patient care. Because you are interacting with them face to face, you know how to deal with patients and know how it is like to be around patients. From the advises I have read, you can just explain to the adcom what you do and how it is a good 'hands on' experience. Interacting with patients will suffice I think. sarraeo26
SMU definitely accepts medical assistants, we have a few in our class. Other types of experience we have in our class: personal trainer, pharmacy tech, americorps/community health corps, naturopathic doc, CNA, EMT, PT assistants, chiropractor, nurse. You can ALWAYS email the program and provide a description of your experience first. This would be wise considering applying to PA school is expensive.
