LKPAC
Can you just pass a test? Do you have to take a course? Can you do it online? Thanks!
Guest Paula
You must have a certain number of patient contact hours with a minimum of 2 years of experience in the discipline. Minimum of 1000 of DSME with 400 of those hours accrued in the most recent year preceding the application. Plus must demonstrate 15 CME applicable to diabetes within two years of applying for the examination. Certification fees about $350 (probably more, that's what it was in 2011). Renewal of cert: $250. and a lapsed cert $350. I qualify to take the test but just can't justify it now with all the other certs I need to keep up. It could be an asset though depending on your practice. Check out www.ncbde.org for the newest requirements.
