Canine Companions for Independence

Recommended Posts

My wife is currently raising a pup for Canine Companions for Independence (CCI), and they're wanting to get more dogs out to wounded vets. Just wanted to share this with you all here in hopes that you or somebody you know may benefit from this organization. Its all free of charge. Here's a quick youtube link to a quick video on some vets that have dogs. Especially as providers, this can be an excellent resource not just for veterans, but for other patients that may have a need.

Thanks for checking it out.

I love this. As a side note, its nice in this particular video to see the dogs get placed with what looks to be like motivated handlers. There is a service dog that comes in routinely with a malingerer (with all the usual traits...obese, inactive, opiate dependence, angry, etc) at our ED and... basically the dog looks miserable.

Yeah, this company takes great care in matching the dogs with viable, motivated and deserving individuals. Sometimes it can take over a year for the right dog-to-human match. These dogs are the real deal (specifically bred through the company and raised by volunteers). You won't see a lap dog ankle-biter with a vest off of ebay from this company. :)
