sportygirl07
also, does a MPH with a emphasis on the health policy track allow you to be a healthcare administrator?
coloradopa
can PAs be healthcare administrators? because I mostly hear about nurses being administrators but what about PAs? how do PAs become healthcare administrators? Nurses are usually nursing administrators and most (at our institution) have MSNs. There are a few MBAs and a couple of JDs in risk. PAs (and physicians) that move into administration usually have MBAs. An MHA (masters in healthcare administration) is also an option. To answer your second question an MPH is usually a research degree (although places do have administrative tracks). There are also a lot of MPH/MHA or MPH/MBA dual track programs. sportygirl07
1. would it be better to get an MBA or Master's in healthcare administration? or even a master's in public health with emphasis on health administration/health policy?
SHU-CH
There is nothing formal that should prevent PAs from moving up into administration (informally, institutional culture might be another issue). Compared to docs and nurses we are a little late to the table, but we are getting there. In academia there are all kinds of PAs moving up into the Dean ranks and proving their worth. Slow and steady... Any of your choices above would work. Personally, I would lean toward the MHA.
