cboylb
I am interested in CVTS/EVH positions, but ALL of the job postings require EVH experience. Anyone have any recommendations on how to break into this field? I have been in primary care.
charlottew
I have seen CT surgery positions where you start out seeing patients outside the OR (pre-op, post-op in ICU, floor then outpt f/u), then after some period of time they start training you in the OR. Maybe that would be an option. If you are having trouble getting that sort of position, then maybe you need some other form of inpatient experience first, given that you are in primary care. south
It's very tough to break into this field, but it's also very tough to find someone experienced to hire. You could contact any open positions directly and just ask them if they would consider accepting you because you are highly motivated. Where I worked, they hired a new grad and started training her because she busted down their door to get an interview and they decided to try it out. Of course the last guy they hired ended up having forged all his certifications and stuff...funny story. Or you could consider a residency. Your situation may not allow that, but that would definitely get the job done.
CAAdmission
Usually, you find a group where one (or more) of the surgeons is a major prick and can't hold onto PAs. You grit your teeth, get 2 years experience and then split.
