JHardy
Has anyone taken a training course to become a certified medical examiner (NRCME) or taken the new federal exam? How much studying is involved? I perform DOT physicals at my practice and wanted to know what is involved with this. I have been looking at a few training courses www.concentra.com http://nadme.com and https://www.nrcmetrainingonline.com/ does anyone have any reviews for these courses? They all seem a little pricey. Jean Hardy, PA-C

OpSite
I had no idea that PA's did that. Interesting. I'd like to know the answer as well.

Teasip
I have taken a Concentra DOT course in the past on a couple of occasions since I was doing DOT examinations in my last position, but left before having to take the training course and then the exam. I had wondered if their course which I had attended was basically what was going to be offered to allow one to take the certification examination. One of the benefits of the Concentra course that I took had a physician who was on the developmental committee who established the latest DOT exam standards. The course that I took was a one day exam (Sat.). I would think that if you're really up on the standards and then took the course that it would be enough prep. I used to run across some of our own employees who would get their exam elsewhere who were cleared with conditions which was clearly disallowed by DOT guidelines (in one of those rare cases where they would make a definitive decision, because it's always left to the discretion of the examiner). In most cases the individual wouldn't even have the most recent medical certificate.
