Breaking into derm in Upstate NY - any advice on the following Qs?

Hello fellow PAs!

 

I am currently seeking a position in dermatology in Upstate NY, and had a few questions about this if anyone would like to offer their advice:

 

1. As far as cold-calling goes: do I ask to speak to an office manager or the MD directly? Should I ask to stop by in person as opposed to calling? Or should I mail a resume and CV?

 

2. I have one year experience in FP and 3 years experience in Women's Health..... so no dermatology-specific background. How do I communicate that I am willing and dedicated to learning a new specialty and would need some mentoring?
