How to best negotiate a $10K pay back if leaving before 3 years

Finally found a job that I like and want to take (different from the one I’ve previously posted about) but one big thing is they want me to pay $10K if I leave within the first 3 years (the contract length) What’s the best way to negotiate this away or to be less but in a way that’s not alluding to me leaving before the end of the contact because it’s obviously in place for retainment.
