What is needed for a PA to take X-rays in California?

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Are any of you California PA's taking x-rays? If so, what sort of training/certification did you have to get?

I'm having a hard time getting a clear answer on this. Do we have to take an X-ray tech course (they are lengthy and seem to have a lot of overlap with what we already know...anatomy, etc).

If anyone can give me some direction here, I'd sure appreciate it.

Thanks

RICH1,

From what I understand, you have to go to school and become an x-ray tech. There is no way around that. On the opp side of the coin, if you want to shoot fluro, CAPA passed a bill 1-2 years ago allowing PAs to shoot fluro. They radiology board is still working out the kinks in the fluro certification process but it is expected to be our some time in the next year or two.
