Recommended Posts

Well here is your chance to help promote the profession whether you are an AAPA member or not! This is how we get involved and get our message out just like the APNs. The following message was sent out by the Academy this morning let us all do our part to make this day successful:

It is National Call-In to Congress Day! Today over 250 PA and PA student advocates from 40 states will hit Capitol Hill as part of AAPA's Capitol Connection 2012. These advocates will be engaging legislators and staff in face-to-face meetings, communicating the profession’s legislative priorities and building the profession’s profile on Capitol Hill. To maximize their impact in the halls of Congress, and to engage ALL PAs in advocacy on behalf of the profession, AAPA is urging PAs across the country to participate virtually in Capitol Connection 2012: participate in the AAPA National Call-In to Congress Day and deliver a unified, cohesive message to legislators from coast to coast.

What to Do:

Call or email Congress on Tuesday, March 27, with one or more of the following messages:

  1. Change Medicare to allow PAs to provide hospice services to Medicare patients. (click here for more info on hospice.)
  2. Extend the Electronic Health Record (EHR) Medicaid incentive payment to all physician assistants whose patient volume includes at least 30% Medicaid recipients. (click here for more info on EHR.)
  3. Enable PAs to care for federal workers injured on the job. (click here for more info on FECA.)

How to Do It:

  1. First, determine who your Senators and Representatives are by going to the AAPA's Legislative Action Center official locator.
  2. Pick one of the four issues above that resonates with you and your patients.
  3. On Tuesday, March 27, call the offices directly, or call the Capitol switchboard at (202) 224-3121 and ask to be connected to your legislator’s office.
  4. Tell the person who answers that you are a constituent and a physician assistant, and you are calling to urge the Senator/Congressman to take action on [state the issue using talking points from the issue alerts above].
  5. If you prefer to send an email, you can do so directly through the issue links above (takes 1 click and 2 minutes!), or by going to the Legislative Action Center.

Together, PAs are making a difference in communities across the country – and on Capitol Hill.

Thank you for your advocacy![/TD]
