EMNP Posted November 22, 2016 Hello everyone- I have a few questions regarding student loan repayment programs. I understand there are several organizations that will pay student loans for a time period commitment if we practice in an underserved/rural area. I live in California and will be practicing in the Central Valley which is considered an underserved/rural area. Now, I have heard conflicting information in regards to where the provider needs to practice in order to have loans paid. 1) Does the provider have to work at a primary care clinic to have loans paid off? Or can they work in a hospital setting (inpatient) in such underserved/rural area and still get loans paid since the population we will be dealing with is still considered underserved? 2) Apart from HealthCrops, what other organizations pay student loans once a 2 year commitment is agreed on? I tried searching for the specific questions and was not able to find the specifics. When it comes to loan repayment, do you guys have any specific advice, tips or hints that you learned from someone or through personal experience? Thanks again, Eddie
Marinejiujitsu Posted November 22, 2016 As far as I know. It has to be primary care. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N920A using Tapatalk
BruceBanner Posted November 22, 2016 Please do a search on recent threads with "Student loans" in the title. Many of your questions will be answered. NHSC is a good option, IHS is an option, there are remote Alaska gigs through recruiters and private employers that will pay off most of your loans, and there's always the military. PSLF or Alaska is by far the most bang for your buck if you have high levels (200k+) of debt.
