Lacy.Zimmerman5
Does anyone know if it is required/ helpful to own pediatric and/or infant stethoscopes during a PA program?
primadonna22274
Definitely NOT. Waste of money and space in your coat pockets which will fill up fast! Better to get a Littman cardiology III with reversible bell/diaphragm that doubles as a pediatric scope on the smaller side.
ShelliMedz
Unless you plan on trying to work in pediatrics I would say it's a waste of money. When you're in pediatrics if there's something very interesting many time the preceptors don't mind you borrowing theirs. That being said, there wasn't very much that my regular stethoscope couldn't hear in peds. You'll most likely be seeing kids with runny noses, colds, etc. You don't need it. winterallsummer
Yep the littman has a bell which converts to peds diaphragm easily. Otherwise don't waste your money until you land that peds job (assuming you want to go peds). I use my regular stethoscope for all peds cases. I don't feel it has ever been a disadvantage.
